With Orthodontic Treatment

Unfortunately for most of us, we are not born with a set of perfectly straight teeth. Some of us even have misaligned teeth that not only not look right but may be prone to food collection, teeth staining and bleeding gums, just to name a few problems. A prescribed course of orthodontic treatment can correct most misaligned teeth effectively while taking care of those related dental problems mentioned earlier and more.

Orthodontics can correct the misalignment of teeth to improve the appearance of the teeth, jaws and ultimately the smile. In fact, when teeth are not in the right place, they may cause major dental problems like tooth decay, gum diseases, chronic pain, speech defects and even functional deficiencies.

  • Malocclusion, in which the teeth are irregular and do not bite right.
  • Protruding teeth
  • Crowding of teeth due to narrow jaw
  • Deep bite in which the lower teeth is covered by the upper teeth
  • Reverse bite in which the upper teeth is covered by the lower teeth
  • Asymmetry of teeth
  • Wrong position of teeth

Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry which manages irregularities and abnormalities of the teeth and sometimes the jaw bones. Braces are also used to set right dento-facial irregularities. Treatment for braces normally takes between one and two years in which the patient wears fixed braces to correct the misaligned teeth. Braces can be instituted or started from as early as 11 years of age and older. On some special cases, braces maybe started at an earlier age and only for a prescribed time and then discontinued, afterwhich it maybe restarted and completed at a later age. Orthodontic treatment can be sort at any age after a full assessment of the teeth has been done and no other pathology of the teeth and gums have been detected. For a full assessment to see whether you are suitable, make an appointment for a thorough assessment.

If patients have decided to correct their misaligned teeth but want to do it without having to wear braces, patients may consider an invisible alternative that can be achieved by using Invisalign, a proven alternative to braces. We have an invisalign accredited physician to fulfill your invisalign needs. For more information about Invisalign, make an appointment for a consultation with our trained clinicians.

Metal braces: This is the most conventional use of braces that has not changed much over the years. They now causes less irritation to the gums and can be decorated with colourful elastics to look attractive in kids.

Ceramic braces: These braces are subtler in appearance than the metal braces and are made from composite(tooth coloured) materials. These braces are suitable for both adolescent and adult patients and do not stain easily. Lingual braces: These are metal braces that remain invisible as they are placed behind the teeth. This is mostly used for those who want to straighten their teeth but without the evidence in full frontal view and are not suitable for Invisalign treatment.

Invisalign: This is an alternative to braces and is made of plastic aligners that are invisible and typically straighten the misaligned teeth in an average treatment time of one year.
