1. My gums bleed while brushing? Is this normal?

Ans: Bleeding gums, though quite common, are not normal. This may indicate that you have inflammation due to gingivitis or more seriously,periodontal disease. See your dentist immediately to prevent irreversible damage to your gums. Sometimes, traumatic brushing may also be the cause, in which case it would be advisable to follow gentle brushing techniques, but you may want to still consult a dentists regarding your brushing technique.

2. When should I take my child for his dental check up?

Ans: A child should have his or her dental check up as soon as the first teeth appear. It is better to take the child for a check up no later than his or her 3rd birthday.

3. How often should I go for a dental check up?

Ans: You should see a Dentist for a dental check-up bi-annual so that any dental problems that may develop can be detected early and treated.

4. My teeth are gray in color and a source of embarrassment to me. What can I do?

Ans: There are effective teeth whitening treatments available as well as other more complex restorative procedures that help to mask the problem. Visit our office to find out which technique is suitable for you in.

5. I have buck teeth that looks odd. Can you fix this?

Ans: Braces are very common nowadays and can be used at all ages. We have a range of conventional braces, from metallic to ceramic(tooth coloured). We also provide invisalign treatment, a proven alternative to wearing braces.

6. What is an implant? Who needs one?

Ans: A dental implant consists of a Titanium screw that is implanted into the jaw bone to support a new false tooth above it. Any person who has lost a tooth either from decay or by some traumatic means may opt for an implant to replace this tooth. However, you will have to still consult a dentist to see if you are still suitable.

7. What are crowns?

Ans: A crown is a form of fixed prosthesis or fixed restoration that is fabricated in a dental lab to cover a badly damaged tooth. It is done to provide strength to the tooth and return the tooth back to function. It is not removable.

8. What is a bridge?

Ans: A bridge is another form of fixed prosthesis that is used to replace a missing tooth by capping the adjacent two teeth for support. A bridge is fixed permanently in place and is not removable.

9: What kinds of tooth fillings are there?

Ans: There are broadly two types of fillings: tooth coloured fillings and gray fillings. The
gray fillings are Amalgam fillings(mercury fillings) whilst the tooth coloured fillings are made of plastic. Ask the dentist to place tooth coloured fillings if you are concerned about the health aspects of having mercury type fillings placed in your mouth.

10. What are the steps followed to have dentures made?

Ans:The dentist will conduct a thorough dental check up prior to making dentures for you. Dentures can be full or partial. The dentist will take impressions and make a trial denture for you. Once this fitting is checked to be right, the final dentures are made.

11. What is root canal treatment(RCT)?

Ans: Root canal treatment is performed on teeth that have been severely damaged to the extent that the nerve of the tooth has been infected or shows since of irreversible pulpitist(inflammation of the dental pulp). During RCT, the nerve of the tooth is removed and the root canal is cleaned of all debris and bacteria. The canal is then subsequently filled with an inert filling material and then sealed with a filling. A crown is usually indicated after this procedure is completed to return strength to the tooth.

12. What is cosmetic dentistry?

Ans: Cosmetic dentistry is any form of elective cosmetic treatment used to beautify your teeth. It can range from simple tooth whitening procedures or a course of braces, to more complex restorative procedures that may involve placing veneers or crowns. 13. What can i do if i chip my tooth?
